John McCrae's War : the story of the poem and the poppy.

A celebrated Canadian doctor, poet and socialite before enlisting in the armed forces, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae was caught up in the wholesale slaughter of the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915. Amid the carnage, the death of one young fellow officer inspired him to write the immortal poem 'In Flanders Fields'.

This is the story of that poem and its author, broken and eventually destroyed by the horrors of war.

Combining vivid contemporary film footage and photography with interviews with historians and McCrae's biographers John Prescott and Dianne Graves, it provides an extraordinary insight into one of the most moving war poems ever written. An intriguing DVD.
