Michael L Green
‘To the Glory of God, and in ever loving memory of those brave men of Halesowen who gave their lives for their King and Country in the Great War of 1914 – 1919 for the cause of Justice and Freedom’.
The First World War affected every city, town, village and hamlet across the length and breadth of the country. Many young men who went off to war were never to return and today these soldiers sailors and airmen are remembered on the multitude of war memorials, that are an all too common sight in the communities of Great Britain.
Michael Green’s meticulously researched book explores in detail a particular memorial, that of Halesowen. With the use of photographs and images, the names recorded on the Halesowen war memorial are investigated, providing explicit information about the life and death of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country, in the war to end all wars.
About the Author
Michael Green was educated at George Dixon Grammar School in Birmingham, from where he entered the construction industry, as a Quantity Surveyor, a profession in which he is still gainfully employed. Michael lives in Halesowen, but for the past 25 years he has regularly travelled to France and Belgium, generally with a group of three friends, all of who are ex-Round Table members.
In 2009, Michael stayed at Talbot House in Poperinge, a house that his father had visited in 1918, while serving on the Western Front with the Army Service Corps, sparking his interest in the lives of the Halesowen fallen of the Great War.
