Alison Morgan
Dalwood Great War Memorial presents for each man their factual military history - where they enlisted and served and what happened to them; where they died and where they are remembered in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission records - whether this be an individual headstone on the Western Front or immortalised on one of the great monuments to those with no known grave.
This is combined with details from research in the local parish records of their lives and their families in this parish community in the years leading up to the outbreak of the War in 1914. The book also contains an account of the early lives and experiences in the War of some other Dalwood men whose military records have survived.
About the author
Alison Morgan is a retired teacher who has spent many years researching local history and in particular the history of the parish of Dalwood in East Devon where she lives. She has been interviewing local people about their memories. This has led to more research into the lives of previous generations in the parish. This is the first of a number of small books about this parish that she plans to publish on the theme of ‘Dalwood Past People and Places’.
The publication of this book was timed to coincide with the Remembrance Services of November 11th 2012 and the increasing interest as the Centenary of the start of the Great War in 1914 approaches.
